Donations

As a member owned and operated social club, we rely on membership dues, public show ticket sales, and public donations to fund our operations.

Without the continued support of the public, we would not be able to pour the same level of effort into maintaining and improving the railroad we’ve all come to love over the years. For that we extend our most heartfelt gratitude.

If you wish to support our continued journey by donating to us, we generally accept donations in two forms:

  • Money that we can spend directly to cover our expenses

  • Modelling equipment that we can either use directly on our layout - Or resell via our eBay Store to raise funds

This page contains information on how you can donate either money or equipment to our club. If you would like to support us by some other means, please feel welcome to contact us.

Equipment Donation

We often experience folks reaching out to us with a recurring question:

I have modelling equipment that needs a new home, can you please help?

Whether it be due to a child moving on from the hobby, or a loved one who shared the hobby passing on, it’s not unusual to find yourself with model railroading equipment in need of a new home.

We are happy to help re-home model railroading equipment, and either use it to improve our own layout, or find a new home for it elsewhere.

Depending on the size of the donation and your distance from our home in Portland, we are open to negotiate for members of our club to pick up the donation from you, so that you don’t need to make the trip down.

If we conclude that the donated equipment doesn’t have a home on our layout, we put it up for sale on our eBay Store - Just like with monetary donations, all proceeds from donation sales go straight to the club balance sheet, and get divided among our various expenditures at the annual budget process.

If you decide you’d like to donate your equipment to us, please fill out the form on this page, and our club president will get back to you, usually within 48 hours.

Monetary Donations

We appreciate monetary donations of all sizes.

Any money donated goes directly to the club’s balance sheet, and is divided among our various areas of spending via our annual budget process lead by the club treasurer.

As members of the club, none of us get paid for the time we spend on any club business. However as a property owner, the club does have many projects of various shapes and sizes to pay for. Examples of our spending are:

  • Taxes

  • Building maintenance

  • Large building projects (I.e. Roof replacement)

  • Utilities

  • Materials for layout maintenance (Track cleaning equipment, replacement electrical wire, paint, etc.)

  • Large layout improvement projects (I.e. Adding new track sections, reworking an area to look different, adding trackside signals, etc.)

  • and more!

Your donation helps us ensure we can continue to cover all of these expenses, and bring the club with us into the future.

Note: Our club is not currently registered as a tax exempt organization with the IRS. As such donations to us are not tax exempt.
